Editorial Policy

Neutrality

We organise verifiable reports; we do not support any political or military party. Colours are used only to tell types of information apart.

Verification

  • An event appears as a map point only when at least two independent outlets report it and its location is known at city level. Each outlet counts once; editors can mark outlets owned by the same group so that they count as one.
  • Single-source reports are labeled "Unverified · 1 source".
  • When the location is only known at country or region level, we highlight the area, never an invented point.
  • We separate the date an event happened from the date it was reported.
  • When sources conflict, we list each source's account separately and do not state either as fact.
  • A small icon next to a map point suggests the reported type of attack or what was hit (for example drone, missile, airstrike, helicopter, shelling, tank, gunfire, explosion, landmine, ship or tanker attacked, ship hijacked, aircraft shot down, power grid, fuel depot, nuclear plant, dam, hospital) only when at least two independent outlets describe it the same way. Otherwise no icon is shown.
  • Protests, riots and unrest reported by at least two independent outlets at city level are shown with a crowd icon and no flame, because they are not attack damage.
  • Ceasefires and talks, aid deliveries, evacuations and displacement, and cyberattacks get a small icon in the news list only. They are never shown as map points.
  • The size of a map point reflects reported damage in three steps (damage reported; 5 or more people killed or injured, or buildings destroyed; 20 or more people killed or injured), only when at least two independent outlets report that level. It does not reflect the number of articles.

What we never show

  • Attack origins, launch sites, trajectories, or who is claimed to be responsible.
  • Severity scores, ratings or rankings.
  • Graphic images. Videos are searched with YouTube’s strictest safety setting, and editors hide any graphic thumbnails that slip through.

Automation

Collection and grouping are automated with fixed rules, not AI. Editors review new sources, sensitive events and reader reports, and can hide, merge or correct items.

Advertising

Ads never influence coverage. Pages about events involving casualties do not show ads until reviewed.
